My fear is that…

My fear is that…

1:51am – They say that the older one gets, the more mature one is, and the more ready one shall be when tackling problems. Some of this is due to maturity, but mainly due to experience of tackling smaller problems prior. I have to say that things in the past ten years have mostly been smooth sailing, comparable to riding small waves. Sure, there were those times, but I always knew that if rode the waves without much resistance, all would be fine. Of course, one doesn’t make a statement as such without comparing this to something of greater magnitude. And as such, this has happened, or is happening…

People who know me, understand that I am an emotionally stable person – almost rock-like at times guided by a set of principles which are unfaltering. Not without a sense of humor of course – everybody needs to lighten up now and then. But even the jokes and jest may only exist atop a solid bedrock.

I would have to say however, that I think this is the first time in over possibly twenty years where alike a fighter in the ring whom has been hit too many times, I am wavering back and forth atop weak knees, about to teeter over. I am utterly helpless, exhausted from the days events, and unsure of what my next steps should be. In the recent months, I have also been afflicted possibly with the same ailments as my own mother, where I wake in the middle of the night for hours. I find these are the best times for problem solving – as my mind races to find solutions to today’s complex problems.

In exactly one week, I will be returning to Brooklyn for a short trip – to visit family and friends. Mainly to allow my father, Grandpa, to meet his grandchildren – Julian, who is five, and Megan, who is ten. My fear is that this may be one of his last opportunities to do so… My fear is that he really is not well… My fear is that he, my mother and my sister have been softening the truth regarding his conditions… My fear is that daily phone calls to him every morning will no longer be… My fear is that maybe it may be one of my last opportunities to see him… My fear is that maybe my guilt will consume me whole…

An acoustic cover of Rosi Golan’s “Hazy” as performed by Megan Knight (who is 9 years old at the time of this recording) and Peter Knight (her father, who is a few years older than 9).

Changing the first line of this song changed the meaning and perception of this entire song altogether – from that from a woman and a man to a song of that from a child and their parent. Both verses, whose words are identical have separate yet similar meanings from a child and from a parent.

“A relationship between a parent and child is unique and strong, and will evolve through time. I hope that one day, Megan, you will be able to grasp the full meaning of this song, from all perspectives. I love you – Daddy.”

Original song written by Rosi Golan, Richard Emanuel Lobb, Iain Archer

Over the summer (of 2012), we had the pleasure of visiting Maui and had loads of fun. We also got the chance to meet many great people. It was a significant trip for the family for the first time we visited, it was just Elizabeth and I – for our honeymoon back in 2000. We always wanted to return and we finally got the chance to do so again – this time with our children Megan and Julian. What a blast we had. One of the things we experienced again was a submarine ride in Atlantis Submarines where we got to journey below the waters of Maui and experience first-hand what the underwater world was like. Come with us and enjoy the same!

Lifehouse – You and Me (An Unique Acoustic Cover)

Lifehouse – You and Me (An Unique Acoustic Cover)

A cover of one of my favorite songs from the band, Lifehouse, called “You and Me”. The video was shot on the beach in Lahaina, right off of Ka’anapali Beachwalk where the family and I just took a long awaited vacation to Maui, Hawaii. This trip was very significant for us for the first time we visited Maui was on our honeymoon (back in April 2000). We’ve always wanted to visit again, and with all good intentions, we finally we able again twelve years later, and with 2 kids!

I hope you enjoy this – it was great fun making this video.

Pink Floyd – Wish You Were Here – Acoustic Cover

Pink Floyd – Wish You Were Here – Acoustic Cover

In one take – here’s a cover of a Pink Floyd song called “Wish You Were Here” Its such a classic and not too sure I’ve done it any justice, but I’ve always really liked to play it – so why not share? Not too sure about the mic placement as the vocals seem a bit low compared to the guitar, but oh the joy of live recordings…

A little factoid – Jubee (4 years old) was patiently waiting off to the side while I recorded this (he had just received a new guitar from his Uncle Nam). Stick around to the end for a little surprise.
