So its now the start of 2011 and before I knew it, 2010 flew by as quickly as a hummingbird dashing across alike a dart in the brisk Spring air. 2010 was pivotal for me and alike many others, made a difference. A lot has happened, and a lot has not happened – which is actually what the rewarding part was.  For the past few years, I recall telling myself that this was going to be the year – that was going to make a difference.  This was going to be the year where all would fall into place.  I had wished for a while now that things would just stabilize.. just quiet down.  Not to a standstill really.  But to the point where at least I could take a breath, and just take a look around.

Reflecting back with an ounce of honesty, life has been so quick and full of rampant change since 1998. Life prior to 1998 was somewhat routine for a while – and possibly during that time, things needed to change. Events needed to evolve. Something just to prod things so that life could just start again. And it did. Quickly. Elizabeth and I had decided to move to New York City, get married, shift our careers, and events happened one after the other continuously for years. Mostly good events too, so I’m happy about that.

But for a while now – I would say since 2005, in all this evolution, we needed to stabilize. We were missing the essentials of a daily routine. We really needed a non-rapidly moving environment where Megan and Julian could flourish and grow.  They are remarkable children and they deserve at least that.

All in all, I think 2010 was that year for us. The moving around stopped – we stayed kaput where we are. The job changes stopped – every six months really took its toll on me mentally. I’m tough as nails when it comes to job change now, but I’m truly brittle as well. Sad to say, my health is not all that great – I haven’t taken care of myself over the years, and it shows.  My blood pressure is high and Elizabeth constantly warns me that heart attacks do happen. I joke – but I know she’s right. Part of me is in denial that it can’t happen to me, but I feel it.

Maybe that’s next to take care of.

“Fireworks from the Roof” — this one’s still in the oven 🔥
.
A song draft that’s only about a month old, and I’m still changing words and adding sections here and there. This was also recorded from “The Yard”, located in Redwood City, CA. The song speaks to my childhood growing up as a latchkey kid - both my parents worked and after school, the kids in the neighborhood were left to our own devices. I knew this one kid, who had an older brother named Robert and older sister named Lilly — we would at times sneak away from their watch and they were soooo pissed. But we were kids and such as crazy kids we were.
.
.
My inner thoughts - what I’m finding interesting in this video is:
1. I’m trying to remember the words - even though they were my own.
2. I can’t believe I used the term “red light sky afternoon” in the first chorus — it totally mentally tripped me up. My mind did dart back to the red light district of Times Square when I was a kid — I wanted to pause and make a joke, but decided against it - artistic continuity I thought. Yep, all that within 1 second… geez, self sabotage.

“Blind Without Seeing” - an unreleased song. This place is called “The Yard”, located in Redwood City, CA. Absolutely adore this place, moreso the folks that are here - it’s basically family-run and the folks are just so warm and welcoming. Alike filling your heart with a mug filled with hot chocolate. Sorry if the video is a little bit pixelated - it was actually saved off of a FB Live stream that wifey felt encouraged to broadcast.
.
“Blind Without Seeing” is song that exists during the time of fighting partners - and really a self-reflection full of inner child speak. Where all the cool stuff lays they say. Ah, such as life.
.
In my inner thoughts - with full context, what I’m finding interesting in this video is:
1. I’m trying to deal with herniated discs in my spine - so I’m surprisingly able to start moving again.
2. I’ve made a few mistakes during my playing and singing, but it doesn’t really matter — it’s about how I deal with it at the time - just keep it going.
3. There’s even a point in time where I accidentally bumped into a guitar behind me, and had other use my leg to base the guitar back up - and my reaction was to take my hands and catch the guitar, but I used my leg, and didn’t miss the rhythm. That was just a miracle by itself.
.
Wifey says I sing too much with my eyes closed. I don’t do this on purpose - Its just how I’m naturally am, I guess.

Just your friendly neighborhood folk singer… now available in collectible form 😅
Saw this meme going around and couldn’t resist having a little fun with it.
Not trying to be anything fancy — just a guy with a guitar, some songs, and a love for playing.

When your social circles overlap —a little over six months after James and I suddenly realized we both worked at the same place in our day jobs. We’ve been musical friends for about two years now when we ran into each other in the work break room! It’s amazing — one can’t make this stuff up! :)

We’re based in the San Francisco Bay Area, and here we are at a work event in Phoenix, AZ.

“A Place Called Us” played at Gilman’s in Berkeley, CA on January 15, 2025 - I was lucky enough to have a few folks capture this on their phones. I tried my best to fix the color, but I’m afraid my video editing skills aren’t what they used to be - apologize if its a bit oddly too bright, and too dark at the same time. Gilman’s has this amazing huge back room where they have these huge beer barrels. It’s a bit cold and damp year round, and caverneshly (if that’s a word) very echoey. There’s actually no reverb mixed into this and the sound is straight with no effects - what you’re actually hearing is the natural reverb of this room. Its a bit crazy, but totally awesome at the same time.

I’m still beaming from the afterglow. Thank you Wifey Elizabeth for the warm Birthday wishes and ever-awesome November babies Birthday party. Cousin Joel and I were showered with so many flattering compliments, and each song felt like a gift. Especially when “coming to” after a song, opening my eyes and seeing all those wonderful smiles and heartfelt reactions. I couldn’t have asked for a better celebration.

I am fortunate - for I have you by my side, Wifey Elizabeth. Happy Birthday to all! To love, friends, and family.
