once turned on the television and watched The Academy Awards.  It was being filmed from Radio City Music Hall located in New York City.  Someone was giving a long winded speech at the time, and the camera panned over to the audience and caught a shot of Tom Cruise looking down towards the back of the seat in front of him.  At this instant, I knew what he was thinking.

My family and I used to attend the Radio City Music Hall Christmas Show every year.  This was the popular show which has been showing for years and years starring the infamous Rockettes.  My family attended every year and every year the same thing happened:  My dad fell asleep to a slight snore, my mom nodded up and down like a pigeon between alpha and alpha-2 states of sleep, my sister seemed thoroughly enjoyed until she started asking questions about teen idols she was daydreaming about, and I was restless like Dennis Rodman in a drafty hair salon.  To shut me up, my parents and my sister told me about the magic buttons.

On all the back of the seats in Radio City Music Hall are two buttons.  They must have been there from long ago, which probably used to call ushers over during performances, but till this present day, have been disconnected.  My parents and sister told me that they were voting buttons.  If they received enough votes against the current performance, the show would proceed, vetoing the current act, and continuing with the next.

I remember pushing and pushing and pushing that button until the Rockettes hit the stage.  And, I know that’s what Tom Cruise was doing that night too.
