We rode up the escalator as my childhood friend Christina and I talked about relationships.  She asked me a question, “Of all the previous partners that you had been with, whom do you miss the most being with?”
I thought about this question for a second, and wondered what the deep-rooted meaning of the answer would entail.  Then, I wondered about the answer.  I pondered about my previous intimate relationships for a second, and the pros and cons of each of them.  Some of them were more obvious than others, but sometimes the comparisons were fuzzy.  After a few more seconds, it occurred to me that I was unsure as to how to answer.
She interjected, “I think I miss my second to previous boyfriend.”
     “Why?”  I asked her.
“Because, he seemed to care about me,” she paused, thought to herself, and with a sincere smile, she patiently stated, “He really truly cared about me.”
It was a simple answer: One that addressed a very important aspect.
