To live with fear is to live without peace.  Nested within oneself is where fear resides; deep within oneself.  Fear does not, and cannot, exist on the outside; the external.  It is not objective.  Fear, the emotion which burns from within can either paralyze one to the degree where everything that surrounds a person moves at a fast pace as though one’s feet are frozen to the ground, standing there helplessly with every part of the body solidified like concrete.  The only part that is mobile is the eyes.  Eyes that objectively see and scrutinize its surroundings.
Fear can also bring forth the extra energy needed to partake on any task.  The task at hand may not be humanly possible if one’s emotions were not heightened to the degree fear would make it.

John walked along the ledge.  Peering over once in a while, his equilibrium was thrown off.  He felt his knees buckling under him.  The lights of the city on such a clear night added to the intensity.  He approached the corner of the building and started counting down again; ten, nine, eight...  He turned the corner gripping the bricks with his fingertips.  Laughing to himself, realizing that he may have just fooled fate.  Looking straight ahead he continued with his right hand to guide him along the wall.  With his left hand, he held flat at an angle parallel to his upper torso to offer himself balance.  One can hear the wind, the people, and the cars.  One can also smell the exhaust fumes from below.  There was not a cloud in the sky.  It was crystal clear.  Realizing he was half way between the corners of the building, his footing seemed unsure compared to earlier.

Jane was about to hit the stage.  She heard the audience’s disapproval of the previous performer.  Although this was not the first time she did this routine, it was the first and maybe last time that the talent scout would appear here, at this place to come see, and evaluate her.
The announcer began introducing her over the PA system.  She heard the audience’s disinterest.  Waiting behind the curtain, she heard a few people’s chairs sliding and footsteps walking away.
