It was the end of the show and we knew that the band had to come out and do one more song. The band was named Crazy Train hailing from Kentucky, and traveling around parts of the country performing music from Ozzy Osbourne at local Hard Rock clubs. Not only did they perform the music, but they also mimicked the band, and were quite good doing so. The singer ad-libbed the same words Ozzy would in middle of songs and yelled out the same sayings that Ozzy would yell between songs.
There, my friends Alex, Dan, and I stood waiting for the encore performance along with a host of others in the audience cheering. The lights were once again dimmed and our cheers increased. You could see the figures move back across the stage, to their instruments, in the dark. Okay. Rochester!, the singers voice was heard through the PA system, Are you ready for one more?! I cant hear you. I still cant hear you. I want you all to go crazy! Heres a little number were going to do now called Crazy Train. The music started with an uproar and the stage was once again filled with lights with all assorted colors flashing, panning and blinking along with the music.
The band had completed a few verses and at this point, the crowd was really enthusiastic as what was going to happen next. More specifically, we wondered what the singer had up his bag of tricks to entertain the audience during the final guitar solo. It was at this point when Dan whipped his head around to Alex and me and yelled, Hopefully, Im gonna get us kicked out! and took off running into the darkness and toward the stage. Alex and I looked at each other and wondered if he said what we thought he said.
We looked for Dan, but he was not to be found. I spotted him disappearing behind one of the speaker sets off to stage right. The guitarists finished his solo, and the singer started singing again. Among all the flashing, multi-colored, panning and blinking lights, we spotted Dan high-tailing it across the stage toward the singer. He picked up his knees and flung his arms up and down with every pace as he raced toward the unbeknownst singer. What seemed to be about ten seconds later, there Dan stood in the middle of the stage with his arm around the Ozzy imitator singing the last chorus to the song, Crazy Train.
