They positioned us in the living room to watch them play. They made us sit on the couch and not speak or make a commotion, just to watch. It was their debut performance and in all actuality, they were more excited about it than we were. I looked to the other three members of the audience and they seemed a little bewildered too. Sarah shrugged her shoulders, Wahley smiled, and Andrew wanted to go back upstairs. Andrew always wanted to go back upstairs. That was Andrew.
Our sisters had a rehearsal earlier where they closed off the living room, and did not allow us to enter. I think they were performing a sound check and some last minute choreography changes.
We felt the tension peaking as they took their positions on the stage area. The cast was now present. There was Shirley on the drums; Susan on the guitar; Linda on the bass; and the other Shirley on the other guitar and lead vocals. All the others sang backup vocals. The first thing that we noticed was that this band mirrored the infamous plaid-skinned Bay City Rollers, and each of the members played their idolized counterparts respectfully, Derek, Woody, Eric, and Leslie.
We waited, Andrew squirmed, Sarah still shrugged her shoulders, and Wahley looked happy. Wahley always looked happy. That was Wahley. Shirley, the lead vocalist, finally stepped out of her position and walked over to the phonograph. Careful now. Remember, we cannot step too hard or thump, cause the record will skip. She lowered the needle onto the record, and we heard the crackling of the vinyl through the speakers. It sounded like a campfire. Shirley jetted back to her position in the front and we knew that in any split second the music would be streaming through the speakers and the still life of the four people that stood in front of us would then start gyrating and come to life. It was just a matter of when. Little did we know that life from that point forward would be different from what we ever have known it as.Present day fact: Wahley is still happy, and, an enormous fan of Karaoke.
