6.27.98

Okay.  I have received a few emails and some face to face queries about updating this page.  Sorry about that.  I guess I have been a little too busy recently, but I will have you know that I have been *thinking* about what to write. <smile>

     “Come.” “No.”
     “Cone.” “No, it’s khong”
     “Khong.” “No.”
“Khong.” “No, you have to stress it with the throat, not using the tongue – khong.”
     “Khong.” “No.”
     “Khong.” “Yes.  You got it.”
     “Khong.” “No.”
     “Khong.” “No.”

The conversation continued.  Liz was teaching me a few Vietnamese words.  It was pretty exciting.  Sometimes, I teach her a few Chinese words, but in actuality, I botch them up somewhat, so she is learning botched up Cantonese Chinese words.  Hopefully, I could pick up a few choice words here and there of Vietnamese.  In a few days, we will be traveling to New Orleans – home of her parents.  I will finally get to go to New Orleans for a week and meet Liz’s parents.  This is going to be fun.  I am pretty excited.  Well, pretty nervous about the parents thing, and excited about the New Orleans thing.  She promised to bring me to a few places such as ‘across that long bridge’ journey out to see some plantations, and of course, a lot of fine cuisine.

Both of us had this whole week off.  We decided that she should travel there a few days ahead first, Friday, just so she could have some quality time with her family.  And, I will arrive Monday and stay for the remainder of the week.

She left for New Orleans this morning.  Supposedly, she was going to fly out last night, but there were some delays with the flights due to some huge storms they were having in the Newark, New Jersey area – the place where she was going to get the connecting flight.  We rebooked at the counter and made them for today.

Waking up a little extra early, I rolled out of bed and jumped in the car and we drove to the airport.  We arrived early, checked in hassle-free – no rebooking, and grabbed some breakfast at McDonald’s.  I had a number 3 (sausage, egg, mcmuffin, hash browns, and an orange juice), and she had a number 4 (sausage, egg, biscuit, hash browns, and an orange juice).  She boarded her plane, and I returned home.

I went right back to sleep.  A few hours later, the last few rings of a telephone awoke me.  Unable to pick it up in time, it went straight to voice mail.  I went back to sleep.  After waking up moments later out of curiosity, I checked the voice mail, and it was Liz, “Peter?  It’s me.  Guess what.  I’m stuck at Newark.  My flight from Rochester came in late and I missed the connecting flight.  Now, they’re booking me on Delta, and hopefully arriving in New Orleans around five something.  I’ll call you whenever I get in.”

Ouch.

I have traveled enough, and hate when that happens.  It is a true hassle.

A call arrived around eight, “It’s me.  I am really really beat.  I just got in…”  I was out with a few friends, but received her later call.  Everything turned out okay and she is glad to be finally home.  I know that she misses her family.

And, the weird thing is that she playing such a large role in my life, I had no idea that it would have such an impact that she would be gone only a couple of days.  Today, it was mainly me and Beejing.  We did a lot together, I brought him to PetsMart and we strolled the aisles.  He likes that.  But, it was kind of odd without Liz there.  Almost *lonely*; but I am a man and do not want to admit that…  so let’s not go there.
