04.07.98  My trip out to California was quite a success.  I learned a lot this time -- seems like whenever I take a trip somewhere, there is a little lesson somewhere.  Once again, thanks for the comments.  I returned home and things turned out pretty good between Liz and my parents.  It is sort of strange how well they got along.  It has always been the stereotype that partners and In-law-ish types do not get along so well.  <Anyhow>, things progressed fairly nicely and my return was warmly welcomed.

<As for this week>, not too much has happened out of the ordinary.  This was the first week that Liz has started to work.  After a few weeks of her placing her resume in with a local employment agency here in Rochester, they finally called her up.  Her well deserved vacation was starting to come to a close and reality was setting in.

They offered her a temporary job for now working as a receptionist in a local small software firm called Blue Lobster.  <First of all>, she was a little disappointed because she was really seeking work in a medical office as a medical secretary until school started for her in August.  She wants to study to be a nurse.  <And secondly>, yes, the name of Blue Lobster is a little strange and peculiar.  Although being written up as a successful small local company in the paper, it’s name is vitally close to the infamous seafood chain.

<Now>, you may think that this was a good headway for prank calls.  And, guess what?  You’re right.  Can you see it coming?  Can you?  Can you?  <Read on>

Setting: First day of work.  Liz dresses up. She is a little nervous. She  leaves the house  a little extra early -- a half hour early for a ten minute commute.  Peter wakes a few moments later and stumbles over to the bathroom.  The phone rings.  Peter does not rush out to answer it, but allows the voice mail system to record the message.

Ten minutes pass.  Peter proceeds from the bathroom a slightly more awake and checks the voice mail system.  The caller was Liz.  She wanted to say good morning.  Peter looks at the CallerID unit and confirmed that the call came from Blue Lobster Co. and notes the telephone number.  Peter thinks to himself for a minute, giggles, and grabs at the phone and begins dialing.

Masterly disguising his voice to mimic an elder man, “Hello?”
The receptionist at Blue Lobster Co. answers, “Hello.  Blue Lobster.  Can I help you?”
Peter recognizes Liz’s voice and continues with the raspy elderly man voice, “Hello?”
“Yes, Blue Lobster.  Can I help you?”
     “Yes.  Hmm.. Red Lobster?”
“This is Blue Lobster. Can I help you?”
     “Is this Red Lobster?”
     “No.  This is Blue Lobster.”
“Yes.  Red Lobster.  Call Ahead Seating right?”
“No.  This is Blue Lobster Software.”
     “No Call Ahead?”
     “No.  Sorry.”
     “No Red Lobster?”
“No.  This is Blue Lobster Software.”
At this point, I could tell she was so nervous, but was very impressed due to her assertiveness in an uncertain situation.  Resuming back to my normal voice, “Ah, just kidding around.”
“Huh?”, it was not obvious to her that it was me.
“This is Peter.  Hey, how’s it going there?”
“Peter!  I’m gonna get you.  You know I almost had a heart attack.”
     “Love you too…”
