I gave notice at my present assignment. I was fearful as to their reaction, but I explained that this was something I would have to do to juxtapose my career. It was well accepted. The manager here commended my abilities and thanked me for the notice well in advance.
She then asked if I was available to come back in the evenings and weekends to help out. I agreed that it would be a possibility.
