We drifted through the states of New Jersey, Delaware and into Maryland. I had plenty of time to think to myself. I knew a few people who lived in the area where we were going to visit. Supposedly, we were eventually going to visit a cousin of hers in Virginia, but there were two of my former college-mates named David and John that were in the local vicinity. It had been a while since I had last had contact with them and it was more than a fleeing thought the other day, but I had forgotten about it since.
I wanted to make some effort in trying to contact them-I should, I know. But, they must be so busy these days. Both of them married, with children now too. Children-that has to change a lot of things. That's what they say. To be honest, I'm not sure if they would have the time or energy to see or choose to meet with me. So much is different now. Oh well. Passing thought anyhow, it would be tough. I would have to look them up. I wouldn't know where to begin without making a few phone calls and emails.
Elizabeth awoke as we approached Baltimore. She seemed better-a lot more talkative than before. A few minutes later, we embarked among Interstate-495, and stumbled upon a structure that startled us, "Holy Geeeezzz ."
I did my best to hold onto the steering wheel and felt relaxed to know all I had to do was to hold it straight. As we drove over a hill, a large white castle-like structure appeared directly in front of us all lit up. It seemed out of place, and magnificent at the same time. The highway made a left turn before the structure and we entered into the nation's capital.
We spent some time driving around and did our oohs and ahhs looking at all the buildings. This city is truly is magnificent at night and for some uncanny reason, very empty at night too.
